Founder – Rodrigo Izquierdo Design Studio
Rodrigo Izquierdo is a Spanish interior designer and creative director based in Milan, with over twenty years of experience in luxury hotel interior design, high-end retail, and residential interior architecture. His work is defined by a precise and rigorous approach – balancing spatial intelligence, material research, and a profound aesthetic sensibility.
He graduated with honours in Interior Design from EINA, Escola d’Art i Disseny in Barcelona in 2001, and began his career at Sandra Tarruella & Isabel Lopez Studio, contributing to award-winning hospitality and luxury residential projects across Spain. In 2005, he relocated to Milan to join Patricia Urquiola’s studio, where he spent thirteen years progressing to the role of Creative Supervisor for the architecture department — leading multidisciplinary teams on landmark projects for some of the world’s most prestigious hotel groups, including Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Marriott, and W Hotels, as well as a broad range of independent five-star and five-star GL properties across Europe. This extensive exposure to the full spectrum of global luxury hospitality has given him a 360-degree understanding of the sector — from creative vision, to brand standards, to technical delivery and client relations.
In 2016 he founded Rodrigo Izquierdo Design Studio, a luxury interior design and interior architecture studio with offices in Milan and Ibiza, specialising in the complete design of new hotel projects and the refurbishment of five-star and five-star GL hotels — always adapting to the specific scale and brief of each client. The studio works directly with hotel owner groups, asset managers and hotel consultancy firms, with bespoke furniture design and FF&E coordination at the core of every project. Among the most significant commissions are the common areas of the Four Seasons Hotel Milan, created in collaboration with Patricia Urquiola Studio, alongside current refurbishment projects for five-star hotels in Milan, Sorrento, Lisbon and Taormina.
Every project begins with careful consideration of the context, the client’s identity, and the investment brief – whether it’s a historic palazzo in Italy, a coastal resort in Spain, or an urban hotel in Portugal. From the spatial strategy to the detail of a bespoke door handle, every scale is resolved with the same rigour and creative clarity. The result is spaces that work – commercially, experientially, and aesthetically – and that endure well beyond the opening moment.
