Activist and critical voice of contemporary tourism, CEO Casa Costa 1956
Michil Costa is a Ladin hotelier and a critical voice of contemporary tourism. With his family, he leads the Casa Costa 1956 group - including the Hotel La Perla, which has been awarded the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) certification - and in 2007 he founded the Casa Costa Foundation ETS, a non-profit social innovation organisation that deals with social and territorial enhancement projects linked to regenerative tourism. He is also president of the Maratona dles Dolomites, one of the most prestigious cycling events in Italy.
His aim is to make tourism a human, authentic and regenerative act: one that does not consume, but cures; one that does not just sell places, but builds relationships and regenerates. He pursues this through his hotels, the Foundation, his book FuTurismo - A heartfelt appeal against tourism monoculture (Raetia, 2022), the podcast Costa Discordia and an ongoing publishing activity, as well as public speeches inviting people to walk the world, not trample it.
“The greatest illusion we have is to think that you are there and I am here. Every action we take has an impact on the planet, on us, on each other. No man is an island.” .m
